Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities

Interactive Data provides prices for U.S. OTC securities from a range of sources, including:

  • OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB) -- provides market maker trade and quote information for OTC securities that meet SEC or other regulatory authority filing requirements.
  • Other-OTC -- brokers/dealers report trades of OTC securities to FINRA. For securities not traded on an exchange or quoted on the OTCBB, FINRA distributes the trade prices as "Other-OTC" prices via the Trade Data Dissemination Service operated by Nasdaq OMX.
  • OTC Markets Group, Inc. -- formerly Pink Sheets LLC, OTC Markets Group is a centralized quotation service that collects and publishes market maker quotes for OTC securities. It provides market maker quotations for OTC Bulletin Board and Other-OTC securities, and for other securities for which trade prices are not available.

Interactive Data delivers pricing data for OTC securities according to the following hierarchies:

Common stock, rights, warrants, and units

  • If an issue is listed on an exchange, a trade or quote from the exchange is provided, if available. Otherwise, a quote from OTC Markets Group may be provided, if it is available.
  • If an issue is not listed on an exchange but is covered on the OTCBB, a trade or quote from the OTCBB is provided, if available. Otherwise, a quote from OTC Markets Group may be provided, if available.
  • If an issue is not listed on an exchange, and is not covered by the OTCBB, an “Other-OTC” trade is provided, if available. Otherwise, a quote from OTC Markets Group is provided, if available.

ADRs and preferred stock

  • If an issue is listed on an exchange, a trade or quote from the exchange is provided, if available.
  • If an issue is not listed on an exchange, an evaluation may be available from Interactive Data.
